Handful of Smoke (2014-2016)
For two years, I had the great good fortune of creating original experimental music with my friend, the Chicago-based percussionist and composer Sam Scranton. The music we made was non-notated, and primarily created through improvisation.
In this project, my primary instrument was amplified “tabletop violin.” You can hear our album, The Felt Order, here.
Chicago Q Ensemble (2010-2016)
One of the most important collaborations of my life was this musical ensemble — sometimes a quintet, sometimes a quartet, sometimes a trio. For seven years, we performed works from the classical canon, as well as premiering countless new works by living composers. Late in our tenure together, we also began to create interdisciplinary performance work.
